Young Reporters Scotland is a nationwide campaign which provides advice and support for young people to report on environmental issues within their communities – whether raising awareness of problems or celebrating successes. Young people are encouraged to be as creative as possible – reports can be in the form of written articles or blogs, photographs or videos. They can cover a wide range of activities including: Agriculture & Forestry, Biodiversity; Climate Change; Coastline; Energy; Food; Health & Wellbeing; Transport; Waste and Water.

Young Reporters Scotland is part of an international programme which is coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and currently runs in 29 countries. It gives young people the opportunity to have their voices heard, gain skills and experience, and the best reports are awarded prizes at a national awards ceremony. The winning entries then have their report submitted to the international competition, offering a fantastic platform for young people to raise awareness of the issues they care about.

The competition is open to 11-21 year olds, with entries judged in 3 age categories: 11-14; 15-18 and 19-21. All entrants receive 500 Young Scot points and a free YRS t-shirt for taking part, in addition to valuable experience for a personal statement or CV.
